Talk shows like Oprah commonly feature eperts offering tips to
quash impulse-buying urge. Well, except for the one she’s
endorsing. In one episode, Winfrey interviewed Carrie Richardson
who is the owner of Celeste Turner – an upscale boutique on
Chicago’s Armitage Avenue. Richardson says, “If you’re having a
really bad day, going out and treating yourself makes you feel
like you’re righting a wrong in some way.” What she called right
the feel good thing and the wrong referred to the impulse buys.
Here are some tips to prevent your from impulsive buying.
Don’t use “I deserve it” as an excuse to buy something beyond
your budget. We all deserve the best in the world. Unluckily, we
have to live within our means.
Go to the malls or other shopping places when in good mood. If
you’re in best shape, you’re more rational and practical in your
shopping spree.
When stressed out, rest at home.

Mind you, today’s shopping can double your headache.
Have a game plan. Prepare a list of what to buy and stick to it.
Bring cash. Leave your plastic cards at home for emergency use.
It will lessen your “power” to shop.
Going back, does shopping heal? Yes, we purchase medicine for
some ailments. We buy nutritious food for good health. For
anything else, it may make you feel worse. (By Marielle Mendoza)
