How many times have you thought of leaving your job because of burnout. Or worse, is burnout your very reason in your recent resignation?

Seriously, I thought I was alone in this professional restlessness. But in our high school reunion last month, a third of my batch mates were infected with burnout that led them to chasing careers almost endlessly.

In my case, it was a lot serious. Do the math – 11 office jobs in five years. Not until I’d learned to fire out burnout at work and realized that changing a workplace would not be the answer.

The irony in burnout is not too many are aware that they have it. In some cases, they ignore it and hope it will pass. But taking no action against it often results to unsound decision later in time.

Burnout is the loss of energy in our life and work which depletes our creativity as a working soul. When you possess this, you tend to be dull and less productive. Before, only people in midlife crisis talk about this. But modern time seems like making us all vulnerable. Many career-driven individuals in their late 20s confess of a recurring burnout.

Creativity is very important nowadays. Aside from losing this when burned out, people tend to shift almost instantly into other fields of career. And dream again but will easily fade out. Burnout will face them again – and you know what’s next!

Most of the reasons why people acquire burnout is due to unchallenged work styles. Over time, the value of these work styles has been incomplete truth.

To succeed, we were oriented to give our all. A lot took it by giving every waking hour at work. This might work for a while. But there is more to life than work. The reality is to achieve certain balance or harmony between our work and other equally-important aspects in life.
